Description: Our family has enjoyed green bean casserole at thanksgiving meals for as long as I can remember! Here is my own version of our family favorite recipe!

Yield: Makes 6 Servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans

  • 1 1/3 cups French's Original Crispy Fried Onions, divided in half

  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Cream of Mushroom Soup

  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

  • 2 teaspoons corn starch

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • 1 teaspoon ground Pepper Black

  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Heat a large pot of water to a boil and spray a square 8 X 8 aluminum roasting pan with cooking spray.

Precook the fresh beans by adding them to the boiling water and cooking for 1 minutes. Then, drain in a colander, running cold water over the beans for a few seconds to reduce the temperature a bit. Drain and add beans to the pan.

In a separate bowl, add the cream of mushroom, cornstarch, milk, pepper, butter, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and nutmeg. Whisk thoroughly until smooth.

Add mushroom soup mixture and half the french fried onions to the green beans in the aluminum pan and stir to combine. Sprinkle the remaining french fried onions evenly over the top of the mixture.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly. Check periodically to make sure the fried onion topping is not browning too quickly. If it is browning too quickly, loosely cover the pan with foil, making sure to leave a lot space for air flow so the topping stays crispy.

Remove from oven, and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
