Sourdough Pizza Toast

This quick and easy pizza flavored toast will satisfy your pizza cravings in a fraction of the time it takes to make homemade pizza or order delivery.

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices sourdough bread

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup pepper jack cheese, shredded

  • 12-16 slices of pepperoni (3-4 slices per slice of bread)

Pizza Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup of Pizza Sauce or Marinara Sauce

  • 1 clove garlic, grated

  • 1 tsp red pepper flake, or to taste

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Garnish

  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves, sliced into ribbons

  • Extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add the bread to the baking sheet and brush both sides lightly with the melted butter.

Toast the bread without toppings first for 5 minutes to start crisping the bread up.

While the bread is toasting, mix up the sauce ingredients in a small dish and set aside.

Remove bread from oven.  Smooth on 1 tbsp of the pizza sauce per slice of bread, then add the cheese and top with pepperoni. Add a bit more shredded cheese on top of the pepperoni.

Return to oven, and bake for 5 minutes more, or until the cheese has melted and browned and pepperoni has crisped up a bit.  Sprinkle on some fresh basil on top and return to the oven just for a minute to wilt the basil a bit.

Remove the bread from the oven. Allow to cool for a minute or so. Drizzle on a touch of the extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy!!
